Five members of a banned militant outfit have been arrested here and explosives and bomb-making materials seized from them, an official said on Wednesday.

The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit of Bangladesh Police arrested the militants from the banned Neo-Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh on Tuesday night from Mirpur area, Xinhua news agency quoted a Dhaka Metropolitan Police spokesperson as saying.

Religiously inciting books, explosives and bomb-making materials were also seized from the arrested men, he said.

Neo-JMB, an offshoot of the banned militant Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh, is blamed for the deadly July 1 Dhaka cafe attack in which 22 people, including 19 foreigners, were killed.

Hundreds of JMB leaders and activists have been already rounded up and its six top leaders, including Shaikh Abdur Rahman, were hanged in 2007.
