The Delhi unit of Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) on Wednesday termed the appointment of former Delhi Police Commissioner B.S. Bassi as member of Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) a "gift" for the "faithful role" he played in the JNU row.
"Bassi was directly involved in police action against the students of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). Now, the Modi government has appointed him on a constitutional post with a term of five years. The appointment is gifted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the faithful role he played during the JNU row," said CPI-M in a statement.
The statement added that the appointment was politically motivated.
On Tuesday, Aam Aadmi Party leader Ashutosh took a jibe at Bassi and said the BJP had obliged the former Police Commissioner for his services to the party.
