Turkish coach Tayfun Korkut was on Monday named the new coach of German side Bayer Leverkusen until the end of the season, replacing Roger Schmidt who was fired a day earlier.
Korkut has a mission to lead the team to a position in the Bundesliga standings that allows it a place in one of the European competitions, amid a disappointing season so far, reports Efe.
Schmidt was dismissed in the aftermath of the 2-6 Bundesliga thrashing by Borussia Dortmund on Saturday.
Previously, Korkut trained Bundesliga sides Hannover 96 and Kaiserslautern.
Along with the league commitment, Korkut will lead the team into a mission impossible against Atletico Madrid at Vicente Calderon, during the second leg of the Champions League's knockouts after a 2-4 home defeat.
