Bayern Munich captain Philipp Lahm fractured his right ankle during training and will be out of action for up to three months.

Lahm, who announced his international retirement from the German national team after winning the World Cup 2014 in Brazil, Tuesday suffered his first severe injury in last eight years and the third major injury during his career, reports Xinhua.

The 31-year-old captain is already the eighth player to be injured in the team after Javi Martinez, Holger Badstuber, David Alaba, Thiago Alcantara, Claudio Pizarro, Tom Starke and Pepe Reina.

Since Alaba, Lahm's left-sided counterpart, is also injured, there will be hardly someone to carry out the mid-field, fullback and defense roles all at the same time.

Now it would be a difficult technical decision for trainer Pep Guardiola to go without eight injured players, including Lahm, who has participated so far in every game in the Bundesliga.
