The Telecom Sector Skill Council (TSSC) and Bharat Broadband Nigam Limited (BBNL) have inked a pact for skill development in the telecom sector for the National Optical Fibre Network (NOFN) project, an official statement said here.

The pact was signed by Ravi Shanker, managing director, BBNL, and Lt Gen SP Kochhar, chief executive officer, TSSC, Friday.

The BBNL is a special purpose vehicle set up to carry out the establishment, management and operation of NOFN, which has been envisaged by the government to provide high speed broadband connectivity to all gram panchayats and to provide access to bandwidth to all eligible service providers to enable them to provide services in rural areas.

"It is important for the Telecom Sector Skills Council to work alongside USOF (Universal Service Obligation Fund) and BBNL in order to achieve the stated objective of the National Telecom Policy 2012 through several training programs to be jointly undertaken. Telecom, IT, Media and Entertainment (TIME) and Social media, Mobility, Analytics and Cloud (SMAC) can very well be addressed by having training programs for Grass Root Telecom Providers (GRTP) touching the lives of rural masses through cable TV, Wi-Fi and other devices," Ravi Shanker said.

The TSSC is the apex skill development body in the telecom sector imparting skills to over 1.80 lakh people across 23 states and 145 cities and town across India through its 130 affiliated training providers, 135 industry partners, four affiliating partners, 10 university partners and three state partners in Gujarat, Kerala and Madhya Pradesh.
