West Bengal Governor K.N. Tripathi Monday unfurled the tricolour as the state celebrated the 66th Republic Day along with the rest of India.
The governor took the salute at a parade by the combined units of the army, navy and air force on Indira Gandhi Sarani, popularly known as Red Road.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee watched the proceedings amid tight security. Several of her ministers and senior officials were present on the occasion.
Banerjee posted on Twitter: "On this Republic Day let us again rededicate ourselves to being a sovereign, socialist, secular, democratic republic."
Kolkata Traffic Police, Eastern Railway and NCC cadets, Army Public School, Kolkata and other schools also took part in the colourful ceremony.
Decked-up tableaux of various government departments were showcased at the ceremony, which drew huge crowds.

A large number of organisations and clubs celebrated the Republic Day across the state in all districts. The national flag was also unfurled at offices of political parties here.
Enthusiastic residents marked the day by unfurling the tricolour in housing complexes and enjoyed watching the impressive parade on television.
