The Election Commission Sunday asked district administrations across West Bengal to intensify their vigil following Maoist attacks in Chhattisgarh and the arrest of a top militant from the state.
"There was an intensive review of the standard operating procedure in a video conference among the EC officials, the district magistrates (DMs) and superintendents of police (SPs) of all the districts and top cops.
"All DMs and SPs have assured that situation was under control and they have asked to intensify vigil and enhance coordination," said Amit Roychowdhury, officer on special duty (OSD).
Top Kamtapur Liberation Organisation (KLO) leader Malkhan Singh was arrested Saturday from Malda district.
At least 14 people, including polling officials and security personnel, were killed Saturday when their vehicles were blown up in two separate Maoist attacks in Chhattisgarh,
The EC has also directed the district officials to execute all pending non-bailable warrants at the earliest.
"Till today, 47,124 non-bailable warrants have been executed while 25,630 more such warrants are still to be executed. The DMs have been instructed to execute as much of them as possible," Bhattacharya said.
He also said that the process of finalising the number of sensitive booths was underway, adding that the excise department, so far has seized 2,80,011 litres of liquor whose monetary value is Rs 2,24,58,200.
