To give a respite to students from the searing heat, the West Bengal government Friday decided to extend the summer vacation in schools till June 25.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the state council of ministers, presided over by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

"The Meteorological Department has said the coming days will be hotter. Keeping this in mind, the council of ministers today decided to extend the summer vacation in schools till June 25. Earlier, the schools were scheduled to reopen June 16," Parliamentary Affairs Minister Partha Chatterjee told media persons.

The order will apply to primary, secondary and higher secondary schools. However, the admission procedures in the educational institutions would not be affected.
