Expressing concern over existence of illegal arms in the state, West Bengal Governor K.N. Tripathi on Sunday called for immediate arrest of those involved in bringing such arms.
"Illegal arms should be confiscated and all those importing them to the state must be immediately arrested," Tripathi told media persons here.
The governor's comments came in the wake of several instances of shootout as well as unearthing of illegal gun making factories in the state.
Earlier in the month, several people were seen dancing with pistols in their hands during a procession in Kandi of Murshidabad district, prompting the opposition Left Front legislators waving toy guns in the state assembly in protest.
While a man was killed and two others received bullet injuries during a shootout in the city suburb in July, an illegal gun manufacturing factory was busted in Nadia district in August.
Over two dozens of firearms and over 100 crude bombs were seized from there.
