A man in West Bengal's Hooghly district was arrested on Saturday while he was trying to dispose off the bodies of a woman and a minor girl suspected to be killed by him, police said.
The accused Samaresh Sarkar, was caught with three trolley bags inside which the dismembered bodies of a woman and a minor girl were found. He was caught by fellow passengers after he threw the bags into the river while riding a ferry.
"The passengers of the ferry grew suspicious after Sarkar threw the bags into the river and detained him.
"We have recovered the trolley bags from which we have found dismembered bodies of a woman and a five-to six-year-old girl," Superintendent of Police (Hooghly) Pravin Tripathi said.
"Sarkar is employed with a nationalised bank in Durgapur (Burdwan district). He boarded a ferry this morning with a view to dispose off the bodies. Prima facie it appears he killed the woman and the child," added Tripathi.
Police are yet to ascertain Sarkar's relationship with the victims.
