Bengal man returns home after 119 days of captivity

Elated and relieved at his release after months as a captive of militants in the northeast, telecom professional Deep Mondal of West Bengal Monday wished no else has to go through the trauma.

"I very happy and relieved to back among my family and friends. I hope nobody else has to go through the trauma that I went through all these days," said Mandal, 25, on his arrival here

He was abducted from Mizoram Nov 23 last year, by National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) cadres with the help of Bru militants.

A resident of Indas in Bankura district, Mondal was released Sunday after remaining 119 days in captivity.

 

"Whenever I would ask why I was being tortured, they would threaten me with dire consequences. They would keep moving me from one place to another and used to beat me mercilessly if I refused to walk which at times stretched for hours," said Mondal about his ordeal.

While he claimed that the militants had demanded a ransom of Rs.5 crore from his company and family members, Mondal denied having any knowledge about the money being paid.
