The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday arrested media baron Ramesh Gandhi in connection with the multi-crore rupee Saradha scam here, an official said.
The chairman and managing director of Rainbow Productions - known for its hugely popular news programme "Khaash Khabor" - was nabbed for his association with Saradha chief and scam kingpin Sudipta Sen.
"Gandhi has been arrested for his involvement in the Saradha scam. He was allegedly associated with Saradha Group boss Sudipta Sen. Huge funds were allegedly transferred in his own and his company bank accounts," said a CBI official.
This is not the first time that Gandhi has been booked by the CBI. The agency had earlier filed cases against him in a coal scam in Dhanbad. He was also accused of conspiring with Prasar Bharati officials for getting commercial rights for his Kolkata-based production firm.
Probing the Saradha scam which came to light in April 2013, the CBI has made several high profile arrests including the likes of West Bengal Transport Minister Madan Mitra and former union minister Matang Sinh.
