Accusing West Bengal Governor Keshri Nath Tripathi of talking constantly in BJP's favour and drafting their complaint letters himself, state Rural Development Minister Subrata Mukherjee on Wednesday termed him as BJP's parrot.
"We feel he is BJP's parrot. We have received many letters of complaint from BJP through him. He takes those letters from BJP leadership, drafts them himself and sends them to us. This is not the job of a governor," Mukherjee said during a press conference at the state secretariat Nabanna.
He took a swipe at the Governor for stating that he also has certain administrative powers like the Chief Minister.
"He has also claimed that his power is at part with the Chief Minister. I want to tell him that chalk and cheese are not the same," the Trinamool leader mocked.
Mukherjee further claimed that Tripathi is going all out to back the BJP as he is unsure about retaining his post after the new President is sworn in.
"He is scared because the presidential election is round the corner and it is not certain that he would retain his post as Governor. That is why he is constantly talking in BJP's favour so that he gets nominated by them as Governor again," he said.
"In spite of saying all this he would have to parrot in his annual address to the state assembly whatever we (the council of ministers) write about the Chief Minister. The political opposition would then accuse him of talking like a parrot of Trinamool Congress," Mukherjee said, taking a swipe at Tripathi's iteration that he was appointed by the President on the recommendation of a democratically-elected Union Government.
"People of the state know how many faces a Governor has and how many masks he has on them," he added.
