The West Bengal government will ink an agreement with Burn Standard company to start a Rs 4,216 crore monorail project in Kolkata, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Thursday.

"We have taken a decision to install monorail in the city. It will connect Budge Budge to Ruby via Taratala, New Alipore and Prince Anwar Shah Road," Mamata said.

"The total project will come up at 4,216 crore," she added.

The state transport department is set to sign the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the project with Burn standard Company that manufactures railway wagons, freight wagons and other railway equipment.

Mamata said there would be no issues with land acquisition for the project as very little land would be needed to construct the necessary infrastructure to run the monorail.

"The state government will provide land." Mamata asserted.
