Bihar's Khagaria town was tense Saturday after two communities clashed Friday over performing the last rites of a dead man on a disputed piece of land, police said.
"The situation is tense but under control with security forces staging a flag march in the town," Khagaria Superintendent of Police Shiv Shankar Jha said.
Jha said the two communities had indulged in brick-batting for nearly two hours Friday afternoon in which two dozen people, including police officials, were injured.
"Police also fired 20 rounds in the air and fired teargas cells to disperse the mob and bring the situation under control," he said.
Subsequently, the district administration banned unlawful assembly of people.
Police said some people have been detained.
