BJP leader Kundanika Sharma, who was booked last week for allegedly making a provocative speech to incite communal hatred, was on Monday arrested from her house and later released on bail till April 2.

An FIR had been filed against her for the speech at the condolence meeting of murdered Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Arun Mahaur more than a fortnight ago.

As news of her arrest spread, hundreds of Bharatiya Janata Party workers gathered at the civil court and started shouting slogans, creating tense moments for police.

She was presented at the judicial magistrate's court and released on interim bail.

Though Sharma had been named along with two others in the FIR, police was avoiding her arrest.

Other BJP leaders including union Minister of State for Human Resource Development Ram Shankar Katheria was also present at the condolence meeting and was under fire for making similar provocative speech.
