"There is a growing wave of crime against citizens, especially women. With an aim to have those policemen serve the needy, I have requested Mumbai Police Commissioner Satyapal Singh to withdraw eight of the 10 policemen deployed for my security," the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader told IANS.
Tawade said that he met the police commissioner and explained his take on the matter.
"Singh has agreed to do so and eight policemen will be withdrawn from my security team effective Tuesday night," he said.
Tawade lamented the lack of security for common people as thousands of cops are deployed for politicians, social figures and other VIPs.
"Who will take care of the law and order situation in a metro like Mumbai, if cops are busy attending to VVIPs most of the time," Tawade asked.
