BJP leaders Thursday met Delhi Police Commissioner B.S. Bassi and demanded the arrest of Law Minister Somnath Bharti for his alleged action against Ugandan women during a night raid in the capital.

Leaders of the Delhi unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), including Vijay Goel and Vijender Gupta, along with party supporters meet the commissioner at the police headquarters here.

"We are submitting a letter to the commissioner asking why is Somnath Bharti not being arrested in spite of being named by a Ugandan woman in her statement," Gupta told IANS.

The Ugandan woman, who was allegedly assaulted by Bharti during his vigilante-style raid, identified the law minister after seeing video footage from a news channel and newspaper clippings.

Goel said he demanded police action on two other issues.

The second demand was to register another case against Bharti for announcing the name of the Danish woman who was gang-raped in the capital.

"Our third demand is to take action against Aam Aadmi Party leaders, including Arvind Kejriwal, who staged a protest at the Rail Bhavan violating section 144," Goel said.

He said the police commissioner assured them that all three issues will be considered.
