The West Bengal BJP leadership on Friday appealed to Governor Keshri Nath Tripathi to ensure thorough investigation to identify the people involved in attacking their state party chief Dilip Ghosh and activists in Darjeeling and demanded immediate arrest of the offenders.

"We have appealed to the Governor that there should be thorough investigation to find out under whose instruction such attacks took place. Everyone associated with the incident should be punished," said BJP General Secretary Rahul Sinha, who led the party delegation.

Accusing the state's ruling Trinamool Congress of orchestrating the attack, Sinha said, "the way the state Tourism Minister Gautam Deb made provocative comments a day before the incident and the way Trinamool Secretary General Partha Chatterjee endorsed the act of offence and the offenders, clearly shows who instigated the attack".

"How can someone being in the responsible position of a minister, talk in favour of the attackers and give statements against the victim?" he questioned.

Sinha also thanked the other political parties in the state for condemning the attack and standing by the victims.

"We are thankful to the other political parties in the state for raising their voice against such a condemnable act on our party leaders and activists. We may have political and ideological differences with them, but we thank them for standing by the victims," he added.

Earlier in the day the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) supporters held rallies across the districts in West Bengal protesting the attack on state party chief Dilip Ghosh in Darjeeling and demanded the arrest of the people involved.

BJP's Darjeeling MP S.S. Ahluwalia also condemned the attack claiming "it clearly happened under the instruction of the state government".
