The Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday named its state unit vice president Shiv Pratap Shukla for the June 11 Rajya Sabha polls from Uttar Pradesh.

Shukla's name was announced by state BJP president Keshav Maurya.

Earlier, the name of union minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi was doing the rounds. Naqvi has since filed his nomination papers for the upper house from Jharkhand.

The party also named Daya Shanker Singh and Bhupendra Chaudhary for legislative council elections in Uttar Pradesh.

The BJP with 41 legislators will need 37 votes to get its Rajya Sabha nominee through and 32 votes for one of its candidate to sail through to the legislative council.

Maurya said he was confident of the victory of the party's second nominee too.
