Bollywood singer and BJP nominee Babul Supriyo won the Asansol Lok Sabha seat in West Bengal, defeating his nearest rival Dola Sen of the Trinamool Congress Friday.

Supriyo won by a margin of over 70,000 votes.

Reacting to his successful foray into politics, Supriyo dedicated the victory to his voters and the unsung party workers.

"I don't have words to describe the feeling. I dedicate my victory to the people of my constituency and my party workers who despite severe odds worked tirelessly. Though unsung, the party workers are the real heroes," Supriyo told IANS.

The voice behind "Pari Hai Ek Pari...", "Chanda Chamke..." and "Dil Ne Dil Ko Pukara..." did not have a smooth sailing. Besides being heckled during one of his campaignings, the 43-year-old was accused of violating the Arms Act and of allegedly entering a temple in a drunken state.
