The BJP on Monday criticised the "dynastic" Congress over the expected elevation of its party Vice President Rahul Gandhi as Congress President, and said the timing of the CWC announcement was "curious", coming before "yet another impending defeat in Gujarat".
"In dynastic Congress party, performance and capability do not matter. Thus, despite a disastrous track record, Rahul's elevation as the next Congress President was a foregone conclusion.
"The timing of the elevation though is curious. It seems Sonia Gandhi (Congress President) wanted to pass the leadership mantle to son Rahul Gandhi before yet another impending defeat in Gujarat state which would have made it embarrassing for the Congress to 'reward' him after a defeat," said BJP spokesperson G.V.L. Narasimha Rao.
The Congress Working Committee on Monday approved the road map for what looks like an unopposed elevation of Rahul Gandhi as party President.
