Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Friday accused the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre and the Samajwadi Party (SP) government in Uttar Pradesh of pursuing politics that divides people along communal lines.
Addressing a rally of party workers in the state capital on the death anniversary of her mentor and BSP founder Kanshi Ram, Mayawati said both the central and state governments have become very unpopular among the people.
The former chief minister said SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav was paying mere lip service on the lynching of a Muslim man in a UP village over rumours that he ate beef.
"The SP government is a total failure and the state is in chaos," she said.
She said a nexus between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and SP was at work to foment communal strife in the state for electoral gains.
