BJP's Delhi unit president Satish Upadhyay has said the party will keep a tab on the work of its legislators and councillors in the state to bring in greater accountability.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will seek details of the money spent by MLAs and councillors in welfare activities, Upadhyay told IANS.

"We will ask them the details of money sanctioned for the welfare activities and the amount spent by them," Upadhyay said.

BJP rules all three municipal corporations in Delhi and has a total of 138 councillors. The party has 28 MLAs in the 70-member state assembly.

BJP leaders said written explanations will be sought in case the work of an MLA or a councillor is not found satisfactory.

The party has asked the councillors not to delay decisions and maintain transparency in their work.

Treating the councillors as the "most important link" of the party at the grassroot level, the party leadership has asked them to see whether the benefits of the government schemes reach the target.

BJP has also asked its councillors to keep pressure on the officers of the municipal corporations for speedy decisions and its implementation.

The leaders said good performance by the councillors will help the BJP in the assembly election, whenever it is held.

The Delhi assembly was placed under suspended animation after the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government resigned Feb 14.

BJP had won 31 seats in the assembly election and three of its MLAs - Harsh Vardhan, Ramesh Bidhuri and Parvesh Verma - are now MPs.
