Accusing the Mamata Banerjee government of being indifferent to the farmers' plight, the BJP's peasant wing on Saturday said it would organise a movement against the agrarian distress in West Bengal.

Announcing the movement, Bharatiya Janata Party Kisan Morcha president Vijay Pal Singh Tomar said the state government's decision not to purchase paddy from the farmers directly has led to agrarian distress in the state.

"The state government's failure in buying paddy from farmers had caused great financial damage to them. We will launch a large-scale movement against it," said Tomar.

Tomar also alleged that the Trinamool Congress government's decision would "allow middlemen to reap profits".

The BJP leader said the date of the movement was yet to be decided.

He accused the Opposition of harming farmers' interests by stalling the proposed land acquisition ordinance.
