BJP to release manifesto April 7

Failing to keep the April 3 date for releasing its manifesto for the Lok Sabha elections, BJP will now come out with its poll promise document on April 7, the first day of polling.

Party spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman, while making the announcement, added that a charge sheet against Congress led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) will be released Friday.

This makes BJP the last among the major parties to release its poll promise document. It will miss the first phase of polling, when five constituencies in Assam and one in Tripura vote.

According to party sources, party's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi has suggested some changes in the manifesto to Murli Manohar Joshi, who heads the manifesto committee.

Sources said the recent episodes of differences over ticket distribution also effected the process.

Apart from that, key leaders including Modi, Joshi and party president Rajnath Singh have been busy with election campaigning and rallies.

The party released a Delhi specific manifesto Wednesday, making an array of promises including that of granting full statehood to Delhi, reducing power tariff by 30 per cent and controlling price rise within one month if voted to power.
