Around 50 activists of the BJP's youth wing were detained from outside the residence of Railway Minister Pawan Bansal where they had gathered to demand his resignation following his nephew's arrest for taking bribe from a senior railway officer.

The activists of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) - the youth wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) - gathered outside Bansal's residence at 8, Askoka Road in central Delhi, at about 5.30 p.m. but were restrained by police personnel deployed there.

The protesters managed to break through two barricades, leading Delhi Police to use water cannons to disperse them.

"The BJYM will observe 'Besharam (shameless) Week' against the UPA for having disgraced the nation," said BJYM chief Anurag Thakur.

"Today (Monday) it was a first programme. From tomorrow (tuesday), the protests would be held at the states capitals across the country. And the protests will continue for the a week," he said.

"There is a new scam each day. I think it is a high time and they (government) should quit," he added.

The protestors were taken in a bus to Parliament Street police station and later let off.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Bansal's nephew, Vijay Singla Saturday with his three associates for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs.90 lakh. The bribe was paid to him here Friday by two people for allegedly getting a senior railway officer, Mahesh Kumar, appointed as a member of the powerful Railway Board.
