Two people belonging to Takfir, a Sinai-based hardline militant group, were killed in a blast in Sheikh Zuweid city in North Sinai, security sources said Monday.
The blast happened when four Jihadi elements attempted to plant an explosive device on Arish-Rafah international road in Sheikh Zuweid city in North Sinai, Xinhua cited the sources as saying.
The device went off before it could be planted, killing the two and leaving two others seriously injured.
The Egyptian army started last month an operation to rid the mines planted by hardline Jihadi militants of two villages near Rafah city in North Sinai governorate.
The Egyptian army has launched large-scale security operations in coordination with police to uproot terrorist hideouts in Sinai's Rafah and Sheikh Zuweid cities.
