Bodies of four men were found in a paddy field in West Bengal's Hoogly district on Thursday morning, the state police said.

The locals of Dakshin Simla village in Hoogly's Chinsurah town found the bodies.

"I saw the four men lying in the field on my way to the railway station around 5.20 a.m. We thought of pouring water on them but found they are already dead after getting closer to the spot," said an elderly woman, one of the first few to notice the corpses in the field.

Officers from Chinsurah police station visited the spot and took the bodies away.

The police said the dead men appeared to be aged between 25-35 years.

"There are no external injury marks on the bodies. The reason for their death can be known only after the autopsy reports come in," said an officer from Chinsurah police station.
