The body of a 22-year-old US citizen, missing since Wednesday, was fished out from a spring in Sevok area of West Bengal's Darjeeling district here on Thursday, police said.
Florida resident Lamar Fawk, who had been staying in this town for over a year on voluntary service, had gone on a trip to the hill under Kalimpong sub-division, Additional Police Superintendent Surya Pratap Yadav told the media.
Fawk, accompanied by his friend E.M. Phelps, had parked their scooters at the foot of the spring near Coronation Bridge and began climbing the hill.
"According to Phelps, Fawk slipped and fell into the spring and was washed away in the current. Phelps informed the police camp at Mongpong under Kalimpong police station at 8 p.m. on Wednesday," said Yadav.
Fire brigade and police personnel were sent to search for Fawk soon after. On Thursday morning, his body was found stuck against a stone in the spring.
"It seems he died after hitting the stone due to the heavy current," said Yadav.
