Bosch opens revamped research centre in Bengaluru

German auto components major Bosch Ltd on Friday unveiled a new research and development (R&D) centre here, revamped at a cost of Rs.350 crore.

"We see immense growth potential in India. The revamped facility underscores our commitment to the country," said Bosch board member Peter Tyroller.

The global firm is investing Rs 1,170 crore this year in its India operations, which include the second phase of expansion of the research centre.

"The new centre with a modern laboratory can accommodate 3,000 employees in Bosch, Robert Bosch Engineering and Business Solutions and Bosch Home Appliances," said Bosch Managing Director Steffen Berns.

 

The subsidiary's hi-tech development centre in Bengaluru is the company's largest facility outside Germany, employing about 14,000 researchers.

"India is an important hub for global development network of our group," said Tyroller.

Engineers at the common facility focus on driver assistance and passive safety, active safety, anti-locking braking system and electronic stability programme and hardware development.

"We also focus on big data and software solutions for the Internet of Things," noted Berns.

Bosch, which started its manufacturing operations in India in 1953, offers products and solutions tailored to the needs of the domestic market.

"We have been making efforts to offer superior products that are environmentally friendly, cost-effective and have the ability to connect with the youth," added Berns.
