Juan Ferreyra and Wallyson struck once in either side of halftime as Botafogo defeated San Lorenzo 2-0 in the their opening Copa Libertadores group match Wednesday.
Argentine Ferreyra scored the opener on the half-hour at the Maracana stadium by thumping in from close range after goalkeeper Sebastian Torrico fumbled a long-range effort from Jorge Vagner, reported Xinhua.
Wallyson doubled the Brazilians' lead just after half time by blasting in a low shot from outside the area.
"Ferreyra has just arrived from Paraguay's Olimpia but he played in the Copa Libertadores last year," Wallyson said after the match.
"I watched him then and know what he is capable of. It's always good to play alongside somebody who knows how to position himself."
In other matches Wednesday, reigning champions Atletico Mineiro defeated Venezuela's Zamora away 1-0, while Mexico's Santos Laguna won 1-0 at home to Arsenal de Sarandi of Argentina.
