Boxers Vijender, Manoj in last 16

Indian boxers Vijender Singh and Manoj Kumar won their respective bouts to advance to the Round of 16 at the Commonwealth Games at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre here Saturday.

Both Vijender (75 kg) and Manoj (64 kg) won their respective men's Round of 32 bouts to proceed to the last 16.

In the Round of 32, Manoj defeated Mokhachane Moshoeshoe of Lesotho 3-0.

The 27-year-old Indian won all three rounds with a perfect score of 30 points, 10 from each judge in each round. Moshoeshoe was no match for the Haryana pugilist as he only managed scores of 27 in all three rounds.

 

Manoj will next take on Canada's Arthur Biyarslanov Sunday.

Later, 2008 Beijing Olympic bronze medallist Vijender also notched up three perfect rounds of 30 points each to trump Andrew Kometa of Kiribati, who scored 26, 25, 26 from his three rounds.

A former World Championship bronze medallist, Vijender will face Mujandjae Kasuota of Namibia Monday.
