Bureaucrats should think fresh and act differently so as to live up to the expectations of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Information and Broadcasting Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu said here on Friday.

Addressing the farewell ceremony and transfers of 100 senior officers from his ministries, Naidu said, "Prime Minister is a storehouse of ideas and fresh and innovative thinking. All that he expects from all of us is to think and act differently. By this, what he means is innovation for higher productivity and better results," a statement from his ministry read.

Naidu, also Minister of Urban Development and Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation (UD and HUPA), said that bureaucracy has come to be seen as an icon of "status quo" and "playing safe".

Urging officials to "break the stereotype" and live up to the expectations of Modi, he said that they officials should not be guided by past but be inspired by the future of the country.

"The past shall only be a reference for drawing right lessons so as to meet the challenges of the future as the country is keen to discover and herald a new future," he added.
