Dubbing the upcoming BRICS nations summit in Goa as "one of the biggest events" ever to be organised in the coastal state, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said on Friday that the meet would help the state improve its infrastructure.

"Preparation meetings will start soon. BRICS meeting is in October. We are the host state and over 8,000 VVIP delegates are coming here, so we have to be well-prepared," Parsekar told reporters in Panaji.

The Chief Minister, who returned to Goa on Thursday after meeting the Union Home Minister Kiren Rijiju in connection with the preparations for the two-day event scheduled to start on October 15, also said that efforts were being made to spruce up existing facilities for the delegates.

"We would also try to see that on the eve of this event we improve various facilities. This is an opportunity for us to improve our infrastructure," Parsekar said.
