The bodies of a young man and his cousin sister -- said to be romantically involved -- were found hanging from a tree Friday in West Bengal, police said.
Niranjan Singh (26) and cousin Pabita Singh (22) were found hanging from a tree in Siliguri of Darjeeling district in the state with the police suspecting the pair took the extreme step fearing societal backlash over their affair, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Siliguri) O.G. Pal.
The family members of the victims were aware of their affair and did not approve it.
The bodies were handed over to the families after post-mortem examination.
