The BSF seized fake Indian currency notes (FICN) of face value of more than Rs two lakh and arrested three smugglers from West Bengal's Malda district on Saturday, an official said.
Acting on a tip off by National Investigation Agency's Kolkata office, a Border Security Force (BSF) planned a special joint operation in a hotel in Farakka.
"During the operation, the party observed some suspicious movement of two persons ... and detained them while they were about to exchange their goods," said BSF's Deputy Inspector General, South Bengal frontier R.P.S. Jaiswal.
"The BSF have seized FICN of the face value of Rs 2,14,000 from both of them, hidden in their ankles," he added.
The two were identified as Rashid Sheikh, 25 and Talib Ali, 34, both from Devipur Diyer village in Maldah.
"During interrogation, they have mentioned another FICN racketeer named Jamal Sheikh, who was also apprehended," said Jaiswal.
