BSF seizes gold bars, one Bangaladeshi national arrested

Border Security Force troopers apprehended a Bangladeshi national and seized 926.5 grams of gold bars with an approximate market value of Rs 28.24 lakh in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal on Thursday.

Acting on specific information, troopers of BSF'S 144th battalion at Ghojadanga carried out a special operation and observed suspicious movement of a miscreant near the border.

On being challenged, the Bangladeshi tried to run away, but the BSF troopers chased and apprehended him.

He was searched and five gold bars weighing 926.50 grams and valued at Rs 28.24 lakh in the international market were seized from him.

 

The Bangladeshi, who gave his name as Md. Zamal of Char Baroikhali village in Narayanganj district, has been handed over to Basirhat police station.

The BSF South Bengal Frontier has seized 13,465.02 grams of Gold of approx market value of Rs 3.94 crore as well as fake Indian currency notes of the face value of Rs 1.22 crore so far this year.

At least 19 gold smugglers have been taken into custody during the current year, a BSF release said.
