Bahujan Samaj Party's Rajya Sabha member Narendra Kashyap and five of his family members were booked in a dowry death case on Wednesday after the death of his elder daughter-in-law here.
The case was registered on the complaint of deceased Himani Kashyap's uncle Om Prakash who said she was shot dead for dowry.
The complainant named Narendra Kashyap, his wife Devendri Devi, son Sagar, younger son Siddharth and her sisters-in-law Sarita and Shobha.
The family was demanding a sports utility vehicle ever since Himani's wedding with Kashyap's elder son, he said in his police complaint.
Himani, 29, was found dead in a bathroom of their Sanjay Nagar residence here at 10.30 a.m. on Wednesday with a gunshot injury to her head, police said.
"We have registered a criminal case on the complaint of Himani's uncle Om Prakash, though arrests are yet to be made," said Superintendent of Police (City) Salman Taj Patil.

Himani's father and former state minister Hira Lal Kashyap threatened that if the BSP parliamentarian was not arrested, he would commit suicide in front of parliament.
He said he would seek an appointment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding justice for his daughter.
Police said Himani was married to Sagar about two years ago. She had a year-old son from the marriage.
A licensed pistol registered in her husband's name was found lying near her body.
Kashyap's family allegedly rushed her to a hospital after the incident but doctors there declared her dead.
"The family did not inform police about the incident. Police came to know about it from the hospital memo," Patil said, adding that the body has been sent for autopsy.
