Bypoll in Delhi's Rajouri Garden on April 9

Voters of Delhi's Rajouri Garden assembly seat will exercise their franchise in a keenly-contested bypoll on Sunday in which the ruling AAP, Congress and BJP are the main contestants.

Being viewed as a precursor to the municipal elections on April 23, it will be a popularity test for the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), of revival for the Congress, and a prestige issue for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is keen to continue to its good run that it experienced in the recent assembly polls.

The seat fell vacant after sitting AAP legislator Jarnail Singh quit to contest the Lambi seat in Punjab against Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) patron Parkash Singh Badal.

While the AAP named Harjeet Singh, another Sikh face, as its candidate, the BJP-SAD alliance candidate is Manjinder Singh Sirsa and Meenakshi Chandela is the Congress nominee.

The Chief Electoral Officer has stated that along with the EVMs, voter-verifiable paper audit trail will also be used in all the polling stations.

There will also be a provision for printing the candidates' photograph on the ballot paper, which will be displayed on the EVMs, according to an official statement.

Counting will be held on April 13.
