The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the transfer of more than six acres land at the Kanpur Air Force Station to the Kendriya Vidyalaya organisation for constructing a school building.
"The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the transfer on lease of 6.5628 acres of defence land to Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) at Air Force Station Kanpur (AFS Kanpur)," said a cabinet communique, adding that the land will be used for construction of school building and other associated infrastructure.
"The defence land is being transferred on lease basis at a nominal rent of Re 1 per annum without any premium in terms of existing government policy on the subject," it said.
The infrastructure of the school will be built by the KVS with its own funds.
A Kendriya Vidyala is functional at the air station since 1985 but is housed in temporary barracks.
This decision will facilitate KVS to construct new school building to meet the requirements of the students and teachers.
