Communications and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Thursday said the penalty for call drops announced by the telecom regulator will be implemented as decided.

"The telecom operators may have a point. But for the government what is more important is customer interest," he said, adding that there is no question of going back on the proposal to penalise telecom operators for call drops.

The minister was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of Microsoft's 'Future Unleashed: Accelerating India'.

Earlier, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) decided to impose a penalty of Re.1 for dropped calls from January 1 next year.

A notification from the TRAI earlier said the calling consumer will get a credit of Re.1 per call drop, limited to three such occurrences per day in a 24-hour cycle. Following that, the mobile operators have to send them an SMS within four hours.
