Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has pulled out of the England squad for Wednesday's friendly against Scotland with an eye infection.

The 32-year-old, who played in the club's 2-0 win over Wigan in the Community Shield on Sunday, was likely to win his 30th cap at Wembley, the BBC reported Wednesday.

The match with Scotland takes place three days before the start of the new Premier League season.
