The amount of cash in circulation has dropped down to Rs 11.74 lakh crore as on March 3, as a fall-out of demonetisation, Parliament was informed on Friday.
The amount of cash in circulation was Rs 11.74 lakh crore on March 3 this year as compared to Rs 16.42 lakh crore on March 31 last year due to demonetisation of Specified Bank Notes (SBNs), Minister of State for Finance Arjun Ram Meghwal said in a written reply to Lok Sabha here.
The cash in circulation stood at Rs 14.29 lakh crore on March 31, 2015 and at Rs 12.83 lakh crore on March 31, 2014, he said.
The minister also said that from April 2016 up to February this year, 2,685 million pieces of Rs 10 and 3,603 million pieces of Rs 20 notes have been supplied to the markets.
He also said that from April 2016 up to February this year, 1,904 million pieces of Rs 5 coins and 1,032 million pieces of Rs 10 coins have been supplied to the markets.
