The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday registered a case against a man in Jharkhand's Bokaro for allegedly forging signature of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

According to the agency, Pandit Swaraj Kumar Roy, hailing from Bokaro Steel City, allegedly forged signatures of the prime minister claiming he was asked by the prime minister's office to arrange a classical music programme during Independence Day.

Looking for Roy who is absconding, CBI sleuths on the day conducted searches at his residences in Bokaro and Bishnupur in West Bengal's Bankura district.

"The searches led to the recovery of large number of incriminating forged documents and articles relating to forgery of the signatures of the prime minister," said a CBI officer.

The CBI is also looking whether the accused, a musician, was only indulging in self promotion by issuing these letters or had any ulterior motives.
