The CBI will seek court permission to conduct lie-detector tests on two of five people, including a senior customs official, arrested on charges of smuggling gold through Cochin airport, agency officials said Friday.

The investigating agency wants to subject Customs Deputy Commissioner C.Madhavan and the main accused Fayas to a lie-detector test as the two are not co-operating, said Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) sources.

The application is likely to be moved in the CBI court here Oct 17, when the five arrested will also seek bail.

The agency had arrested Madhavan, Fayas, Sunil (another customs official) and two women from Dubai for the smuggling.

The two women were arrested at the Cochin airport last month and gold bars weighing 20 kg seized from them.

Their arrest and questioning led to the arrest of Fayas Sep 24. A CBI probe further led to the arrest of Madhavan and Sunil Kumar.

It also found that Fayas had links with not only with top customs officials, but also politicians in various parties.
