Ceasefire violations doubled during Ramadan: Government

The number of ceasefire violations increased during the month of Ramadan -- from May 17 to June 16 - this year by over double at 338 as against 139 in the previous month, Parliament was told on Tuesday.

"At least 586 incidents of ceasefire violations and cross border firings were reported from Pakistan along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir this year from April to June," Minister of State for Home Hansraj Gangaram Ahir told the Lok Sabha in a written reply.

He said that 14 security personnel were martyred in the one-month period from April to June and 39 were injured while there were 11 civilians who lost their lives in this period, and 77 got injured.

 

Ahir, in reply to another question, said that the cross-border infiltration has come down since 2015 when about 62 such cases were reported with 25 cases of infiltration in 2016 and 21 in 2017.
