Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday urged people to celebrate a safe Diwali and keep cleanliness in mind even after the festivities get over.
In his monthly radio programme "Mann Ki Baat", the prime minister said: "My heartiest wishes to all of you on the occasion of Diwali.
"Some untoward incidents take place during Diwali... Children get hurt... So I urge everyone to be cautious."
Highlighting the need to maintain cleanliness, Modi said: "People should maintain sanitation even after Diwali as streets and other premises are seen littered with wrappers of firecrackers.
"The concern that we show for cleanliness before the festival, we must show the same after the festival as well."
