West Bengal's Trinamool Congress government Wednesday accused the central government of aborting several projects which had been sanctioned by the previous UPA regime under the urban renewal mission.
"Several projects sanctioned under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission by the previous regime at the centre have been cancelled by the new government," state Urban Development Minister Firhad Hakim said.
The minister said no explanation has been provided for the cancellation.
Stating that every government needs to fulfill the commitments made by its predecessor, Hakim said the state was not asking for alms from the central government but only seeking its rightful share.
He said only 35 percent of the funds for a JNNURM project are given by the central government. "But they behave as if they are doing us a favour by giving funds," he said.
