Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday said the central government is "committed to maintain peace" in the northeast region and will extend "all necessary help" in this regard.

He made the comment while interacting with a Nagaland delegation, comprising Nagaland Chief Minister T.R. Zeliang, Nagaland assembly Speaker Chotisuh Sazo and some legislators, which called on him here.

"The government of India is committed to maintain peace in the state (Nagaland) as well as in the northeast region and will extend all necessary help in this regard," he said.

The minister said the central government was also committed to peace, prosperity, stability in the state and desires the same from the people of Nagaland.

"The unilateral abrogation of ceasefire by NSCN-K has caused pain and concern to the people of Nagaland and the authorities in the state and at the Centre," Rajnath Singh said.

According to an official statement, the home minister expressed satisfaction over the steps being taken by the state government. "There should be no atmosphere of fear psychosis among the people."

Earlier in the day, the delegation called on Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju and discussed the issues related to the state and the region.
